TMS Journal helps you track your TMS treatment journey — your mood, symptoms, side effects, and screening results, all in one private place. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have, especially around sharing data for research.
We've tried to write this in plain language. If anything is unclear, reach out any time at hello@tmsjournal.com.
Information We Collect
When you create and use a TMS Journal account, we collect:
- Account information — your name, email address, and basic profile details (such as age and sex) you choose to provide.
- Check-in data — mood, energy, anxiety, sleep, and OCD symptom ratings you log, along with any optional notes you write.
- Screening responses — your answers and scores from PHQ-9 and OCI-R screenings, if you choose to take them.
- Treatment preferences — settings like your treatment focus and which screenings you'd like reminders for.
This information is treated as sensitive health information, and it's only ever visible to you and to TMS Journal systems that operate on your behalf.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Power your personal dashboard, charts, and progress trends.
- Remind you about screenings you've opted into, and keep a history of your results.
- Maintain the security of your account and prevent misuse.
- Improve TMS Journal itself, based on aggregate, non-identifying usage patterns.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your identifiable health data with third parties for marketing purposes — ever.
Sharing De-Identified Data for Research
TMS Journal partners with researchers to better understand TMS treatment outcomes. With your permission, a de-identified copy of your treatment, questionnaire, and journaling data may be used for scientific and academic research aimed at improving care for everyone.
It's completely optional
Participating in research sharing is entirely up to you. Your care, your account, and your access to TMS Journal are never affected by whether you opt in or out.
You're always in control
Your data is anonymized first
Before any data is used for research, it is stripped of identifying information. That means the following are removed or replaced before sharing, including but not limited to:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Date of birth
- Account identifiers (such as your user ID or login credentials)
- Free-text notes that may contain personally identifiable information
- Any other information that could reasonably be used to identify you
What remains is a de-identified record — things like symptom scores, check-in trends, and screening results — that cannot reasonably be traced back to you. Researchers never see your name, contact details, or anything else that could identify you personally.
Your Choices
- Opt in or out of research sharing any time from your Profile page.
- Enable or disable screening reminders (PHQ-9, OCI-R) any time from your Profile page.
- Export your data as a JSON or CSV file whenever you'd like a copy.
- Delete your account permanently, which removes your check-ins, screening history, and profile information from our systems.
How We Protect Your Information
Your data is encrypted in transit, stored with strict access controls so only you can read or modify your own records, and your profile photo (if you add one) is kept in a private, access-controlled location. We continually review our security practices to keep your information safe.
Questions About This Policy
This policy may be updated occasionally as TMS Journal grows — we'll keep the "last updated" date current whenever it changes. If you have any questions about your privacy or how your data is used, we're happy to help at hello@tmsjournal.com.
